  1. Open the file from File workspace.
  2. Open Version History in the right sidebar.
  3. Select an older version to preview.
  4. Compare previewed content with current content.
  5. Click Restore for the version you want to make current.
  6. Exit preview and review the restored file.
  7. For DOCX files, check for any legacy plain-text restore warning before confirming restore behavior.
  • Selected historical preview loads without errors.
  • Restored content matches the chosen version.
  • Version history updates after restore in the active file’s history feed.
  • Restore creates a new server history entry with source: restore and label Restored from vN (for example Restored from v12), so the restore itself is recorded as a new version.
  • Version list is empty
  • Ensure the file has prior snapshots and review Version history limits.
  • Restore appears to fail silently
  • Retry after checking connectivity/offline state in Offline and sync.
  • DOCX restore looks incomplete
  • Check whether the selected version is legacy plain-text and follow DOCX-specific guidance in Version history.
