Compare and restore versions
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- Open a file that already has saved versions.
- Ensure the right sidebar can show Version History.
- Open the file from File workspace.
- Open Version History in the right sidebar.
- Select an older version to preview.
- Compare previewed content with current content.
- Click Restore for the version you want to make current.
- Exit preview and review the restored file.
- For DOCX files, check for any legacy plain-text restore warning before confirming restore behavior.
Verification
Section titled “Verification”- Selected historical preview loads without errors.
- Restored content matches the chosen version.
- Version history updates after restore in the active file’s history feed.
- Restore creates a new server history entry with
source: restoreand label Restored from vN (for exampleRestored from v12), so the restore itself is recorded as a new version.
If Something Goes Wrong
Section titled “If Something Goes Wrong”- Version list is empty
- Ensure the file has prior snapshots and review Version history limits.
- Restore appears to fail silently
- Retry after checking connectivity/offline state in Offline and sync.
- DOCX restore looks incomplete
- Check whether the selected version is legacy plain-text and follow DOCX-specific guidance in Version history.
